This white vintage tee features a promotional image used for the 1996 movie adaptation of the Broadway musical Evita. The musical was a historical drama based on a 1976 concept album produced by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber. It depicted the life of the Argentine actress, politician, and activist Eva Peron, who became the First Lady of Argentina in 1946. Following the release of the original album, a film adaptation was launched into development, but in remained trapped in development hell for over fifteen years. Once filming finally began, it was done on location in Buenos Aires and Budapest, however the production faced protests from Argentina natives who feared the film would tarnish Eva Peron’s image.

The movie starred pop superstar Madonna in the titular role, opposite Antonio Banderas as Che and Jonathan Pryce as Juan Peron. It was originally set to star Michelle Pfeiffer, but she left the project after she became pregnant with her second child. Other actresses considered for the role were Glenn Close and Meryl Streep. The role went to Madonna after she sent director, Alan Parker, a four-page letter explaining why she was the best choice to portray Evita. The singer had to undergo vocal training in order to develop the upper register that she needed to sing the emotional musical theater songs used in the film. The movie wound up earning Madonna a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical.
