This handsome tee commemorates David Johansen’s Live it Up tour at the University of Lowell on March 12, 1983. This was a pivotal time for the musician as it was his first solo album. Prior to branching out on his own, Johansen was a member of the New York Dolls, a very influential proto-punk band in NYC and one of the firsts on the early punk rock scene alongside the Stooges and the Velvet Underground. Famous rock acts like Guns N’ Roses, the Sex Pistols, and the Ramones were all inspired by New York Dolls. Johansen’s solo career started in 1978 and continued until 1984.

In 1987, Buster Poindexter was born. This alter ego was clean-cut, sharply dressed, and sang jazz, lounge, and calypso style melodies. Very different from the sweaty, rugged rock n roller David Johansen. He found a fair amount of commercial successful appearing on Saturday Night Light as part of the house band. Poindexter’s first hit song was Hot, Hot, Hot.

This ambitious fellow has been active across multiple genres of music and even dabbled in television and film. Back in 1971, he appeared in John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s movie Up Your Legs Forever. 1989 saw a special opening performance from Johansen at Disney MGM Studios. In 2002, he formed a country blues group David Johansen and the Harry Smiths and in 2015 he appeared in the Netflix original A Very Murray Christmas.

Tag says large but this shirt fits like a modern unisex adult medium.
