This black vintage t-shirt is for the Irish rock band U2 from their 1988 album Rattle and Hum. The album was a hybrid of live and studio recordings and it was released in conjuncture with an accompanying rockumentary film directed by Phil Joanou. The project included recordings from Sun Studio in Memphis as well as collaborations with Bob Dylan, B.B. King, and Harlem’s New Voices of Freedom gospel choir. While the film only managed to gross $8.6 million, the album was considered a commercial success. It made it to the number one spot in several countries and its lead single, “Desire” earned U2 their first UK number one song.

For their live recordings the band chose to film the black and white footage used in the film over the course of two nights at Denver’s McNichols Sports Arena. Seven songs from the show were used in the film, and three songs were put onto the album. Color outdoor footage that was used in the movie was filmed at the band’s shows in Tempe, Arizona in 1987. Tickets for the shows were only $5, allowing them to sell out quickly and sets for each performance were totally different with the band playing several songs that were rarely performed live such as “Out of Control”, “One Tree Hill”, and “Mothers of the Disappeared”. ¬†
